Support Record Store Day on April 19th!

Saturday, April 19th is now forever going into history books as Record Store Day. The website states,

"On this day, all of these stores will simultaneously link and act as one with the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and nationally."

They've got it going on, with support from some of the biggest names in music: Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Jett, Chuck Berry, etc. The indie group is nicely represented with Regina Spektor, Patton Oswalt, Andrew W.K. and more on board as well.I was super-excited to see that my favorite local indie record stores are all participating in this event! They are:

* The Princeton Record Exchange
* Siren Records
* Vintage Vinyl

Both Siren Records and Vintage Vinyl are hosting in-store performances on Record Store Day! The organizers of Record Store Day are supposed to be sending goodie bags to participating stores, so you get a free show AND free loot.

But remember- go and buy stuff too! Until the recording industry figures out how to circumvent downloading, your favorite artists are losing out on the profits they deserve. All three of the stores I listed have awesome bargain bins with records at $2 or less. I myself don't buy CD's, but I've started to collect vinyl instead. (I just purchased The Velvet Underground & Nico from Siren yesterday! Props to Dan Wassington for pointing it out to me in the store.)

So go spend a few hours on Saturday, April 19th with other awesome, musically like-minded people at your local independent record store! Celebrate the culture you so proudly take part in.
